Should I Stand or Should I Sit?

The Reality

Let’s face it, sitting on a nice leather couch or an ergonomic desk chair is nice. Definitely can’t argue there… but how healthy is it? What are the long-term effects of being in that position for too much time?

Standing Desks

Lately, for a lot of us health freaks, the idea of standing desks at work has become the norm, and to those companies that really do their best to promote health at the place of work, YOU ROCK! The concept is fairly simple: when you sit for long periods of time, the knees, back, and neck will be in a shortened or bent position, which over time will shorten the muscle groups attached to them.

The fact that standing desks allow the user to stand up and work is a great asset to help with your health. Some may wonder - but it’s tiring or my feet hurt; good! Well, it is good because that means your body is showing you what’s wrong. You are now at a game show and the host has asked you to choose between 2 doors:

Door 1 - you go buy the most comfortable chair or

Door 2 - you start strengthening the part which is weak (hurting).

Both options are fair, and it’s up to you to decide. But what will the 20 years-in-the-future-you say if he/she was here?

Why Standing?

Standing on bare feet or minimal shoes will activate your muscles whilst you are at the office doing all the usual tasks. And if over and above that you add a beam underneath your desk, trigger tools, or a slack set it will just make work more fun, and your body will also be fit as a result.

We sit in the car, at the office, at lunch, at the dinner table, and on the sofa. Next day- repeat!
Move, stand, stretch, jump, balance - make sure you change your posture constantly to avoid issues in the future or even the present. And the more you stand the easier it is to move!
